The Hartley Store
Project

Mid year last year 2015, we were forced to look around for another trading location as we no longer could trade from our old location.

As we were looking around we realised our options were extremely limited if we wanted to remain in beautiful Hartley, NSW, Australia.

Terry, the owner of the previous location where we sub-leased was very helpful and accomodating. The original dwelling on the same property was now heritage listed (1872) and was available should we wish to move our business there.

We discussed this with our local council and they confirmed the fact we could move our business there as well as starting up additional activity.

We were very excited about this opportunity and proceeded to action restorations, renovations and relocating our business.

The first collage on the right shows what "Lyndoch" initially looked like after not being occupied since late 1990's.

As the work progressed we realised old heritage buildings require loads of TLC.

The walls had to be scraped, cleaned, gap filled and sanded.

The floorboards were vacuumed and mopped that many times we've forgotten how many.

Light fittings were fitted with the first light to go in was our chandelier to ensure the right mood was set from the start!

The roof sheeting was investigated due to the age (original from 1872) and only required a bit of panel beating and re-fixing.

The external walls were scraped and gapped followed by painting.

The front verandah had to have all the timber replaced and in true heritage spirit we've replaced it with butt joined local stringy bark timber.

We're now trading but still have a fair bit of work to go as we're still working out bits and pieces.

We had a small opening night where we were joined by the Mayor Maree Statham and Councillor Pilbeam (below picture); it's great to see we have council and local support.

We have also had an opportunity to add some antiques to our range of products and more are yet to come!
